Description This course introduces various schools of critical and literary theory to used in the interpretation of literary texts, e.g. new criticism, psychoanalysis, myth studies, post-structuralism, phenomenology, feminism, post-colonialism, Marxism, etc.

Course Objectives The objective of LIT 3213 is to introduce you to the history and interpretation of literature.  In this course, we will use the methods and language of literary criticism to explore fundamental elements of fiction and poetry, such as plot, style, character, setting, symbolism, prosody, imagery, structure, form and voice (among many others). We will approach writing as a recursive process, involving prewriting, drafting, and revising substantially. Preparatory writings, brief response papers, peer editing workshops, conferences, and revisions based on peer editing and the instructor’s input all aim at honing your skills in writing, proofreading, editing, and revising.

  1. “Inanimate Alice” is a ride along story of a girl and her mother searching for her father who has been gone searching for oil and is 2 days late coming home. Along the way they run into beautiful wildflowers and a dog who she befriends. Also, she really likes a game called ba-xi.
